Harold Cressy High School 2015 Valedictory
On Monday 2nd November Harold Cressy High School 2015 Matriculants made history by having their Valedictory Ceremony in its own multi-purpose school hall. With Phase One being completed, the entire matric body and their parents were allowed to be seated comfortably for the first time in years.
Guests included Dr Shafick Ismail, Chairman of the Harold Cressy Alumni Association, Lionel Adriaan, former Principal of the school, and his wife Maureen Adriaan, Fatima Allie, Hashim Nacerodien and his wife Mareldia, Manie Sonday, Najma Mallick and Mr Williams, Secretary of the Harold Cressy Bursary Association. All of these honourable former students of the school and former staff members have served the school for many years and continue to do so.
The address by Randall Abrahams was followed by representations from each class which were all touching and humorous. It was greatly appreciated that each learner who spoke, first thanked their parents and staff before reminiscing on friendships and lighter moments during their school career.
Thereafter, the Matric Numbers (or letters of Admission to the National Senior Certificate Examination) were handed out by the class teachers.
Academic, Sport and Service Awards were then issued to the Grade 12 students, followed by a musical interlude rendered by Layth Morton from Grade 11L.
The occasion ended with some wonderful photo opportunities and good wishes shared over some light refreshments provided by the school.
The school wishes to thank the staff and the Grade 11 learners who made this event such a success, as well as Fatima Allie for surprising us with Randall Abrahams as our guest speaker.
The Valedictory Event for 2015 was a warm, wonderful one with a fair share of laughter and tears shed by staff, parents, guests and students.
We wish the Matric Class of 2015 well in their future endeavours and ask of them to honour the motto of the school in all aspects of their lives.
A very touching scene greeted onlookers as the Grade 12 class of 2015 came down the steps leading to the field, having just donned their robes at the pre-fab building
Parents were already seated in the hall, and the Master of Ceremonies, Mr Behardien, the Deputy Principal, requested that all guests and staff rise as the Matric Class of 2015 entered the hall and took their places at their seats in front of the stage.
Guests were treated to the singing of the national anthem rendered in harmony by a trio of Matric Girls on the stage. It was an emotional moment as all present realised that this was the first official school event in the new hall!
The programme was poignant and filled with memorable moments, notably, the presence of Randall Abrahams as guest speaker, whose identity for the event had been kept a closely guarded secret by the Alumni Association which had invited him!
Zubair Hassan, the Headboy for 2015, conveys words of encouragement to his peers.
Mr Adriaan kindly agreed to offer a word of encouragement to each student as they received their numbers from their class teacher.
