Running towards a brighter future
With Phase 1 of the Harold Cressy Multi-purpose Hall near completion, the school is working hard to procure funds for Phase 2. Sunday the 15th March saw over 600 members of the community come together to raise some of the funds by participating in the 1st annual Harold Cressy Heritage Fun Run/Fun Walk. Cape Town weather has been rather unpredictable of late, but even Mother Nature was playing nice that morning.
The event started and ended at the school, recently branded a Provincial Heritage Site. Some of the scenery along the route included the historic fields of District Six, the Parliamentary buildings and the Company Gardens. All participants, whether they were competing for time or simply enjoying the walk, were awarded a medal upon completion and served complementary refreshments. Music contributed to the vibrant atmosphere at the finish line where food stalls were setup for the participants while they waited for the lucky draw to take place, of which there were countless prizes to hand out.
Every aspect of the event ran smoothly thanks to the professionalism of Itheko Events Management. The event was ably supported by Jive, Big Boy Transport, Big Boy Crockery, SecurityWise and District Six Museum. The alumni committee is working on finding a title sponsor for this annual event. It is the hope that this event grows from strength to strength each year, in parallel with the growth of the school.
